World Boxing Organization (WBO) superflyweight champion Marvin "Marvelous" Sonsona will face his first title defense against Mexican challenger Alejandro “Payasito” Hernandez in a 12-round bout on Nov. 21 in Canada.Sonsona, who won the WBO belt from veteran Jose “Carita” Lopez of Puerto Rico, remained undefeated in 14 fights (12 knock outs) while Hernandez has a fighting record of 22-7 (11 knock outs).
“This fight is for our country,” Sonsona said, “With help from God, I will win this fight. I would also like to request for the support of the Canadian and Filipino boxing fans.” Sonsona also thanked his friends in Gensan, Cebu and Metro Manila for their continuing support.
Promoter Sammy Gello-ani informed that the Philippine television coverage is courtesy of Solar Sports and GMA 7. Another Pinoy boxer Ciso “Kid Terrible” Morales will be in the undercard. The fight will be held on the morning of November 22 Manila Time.
