2010 Sports Notes Volume #1

NBA:
1) The Orlando Magic is one of the best-built teams in the NBA, but does not play like one. Jameer Nelson (the biggest reason for the Magic losing the Finals last year) must be demoted to the bench. He has helped throw the Magic into turmoil ever since his return from injury.

2) Mr. Redick should have his opportunity to become a starter, because he has become a better shooter, passer, and defender.

3) Last but not least, Ryan Anderson not getting minutes in their loss to the Wizards is ridiculous. Stan Van Gundy is a hit-and-miss coach; some of his decisions are smart, but sometimes he’s a total klutz.

4) More Magic statistics: in their loss to the Wizards, Lewis scores 8 and Barnes scores 7. Both starters. Redick, off the bench, has 14.

5) The best team in the NBA: sadly, the Los Angeles Lakers. They play with an intensity that the Magic have yet to even come close to this year.

6) Gilbert Arenas should be suspended for the rest of the year from the NBA. No exceptions.

7) The NBA really needs to lower the amount of whistles blown a game. I went to the Magic-Jazz game, and let me tell you I was about to swallow my ticket and my hat in frustration.

8) I still miss the physical play of 90s NBA

NFL:
1) My picks for the playoffs:
a) Jets at Bengals: Bengals
b) Eagles at Cowboys: Eagles (Cowboys are due a screw up soon anyway)
c) Ravens as Patriots: Ravens (Patriots are too beat-up to continue winning
d) Packers at Cardinals: Packers (I am dreaming of a Packers-Vikings matchup)

2) I know I picked three road teams to win, but this year home-field advantage isn’t much of an advantage. There are some nasty road teams roaming about

3) It has been an awesome year football by the way

MLB:
1) Roberto Alomar not in the Hall of Fame? How did that happen?

2) Tim Raines, one of the more underrated players in baseball history, deserves a slot in the Hall, no matter what. 808 stolen bases, part of two World Series clubs (Um, the 1998 Yankees anyone), 113 triples, 2,600 hits. By the way, he is a leadoff hitter, making this more impressive.

3) $120 million for Holliday? I think this is a bit much. You’d think with the successful farm systems of the Tampa Bay Rays, Philadelphia Phillies, and Oakland As (forgetting last year), more teams would adapt to the cheaper system of discovering talent and building them from the ground up.

4) Note to all the ingrates that wear baseball caps with the stupid stickers on the cap: at least know what team and city you are representing please. Thanks.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL
1) Congrats. to Bama, but one wonders how the game turned out if Texas’ top QB hadn’t been injured so early

2) We still need a Final Four-like tournament to give lower-key undefeated teams a chance to dance at the big game

3) Florida should have been ranked lower than #1 sooner with their close brushes of defeat against weaker teams. Their #3 spot at the end of the year was rather laughable.

GOLF
1) Leave Tiger Woods alone

SOCCER
1) Orlando NEEDS the World Cup in 2018. The United States needs this World Cup now more than ever to improve the economy and help mend their relationship with the rest of the world

That’s about it. The Ex-Unofficial Official Myspace Sports Swami has returned. We’ll see how often I’ll update on sports.
