How to fix the evening in Hollywood Studios
So nowadays if you are a cast member close to the Fantasmic area, your life could be in danger. Angry guests left and right are ready to pounce like hungry lions upon learning that the first showing of Fantasmic is already booked, and there is already a line for a second one. Now, this crowd didn’t exist before, because the popular show used to be on every day. Now, for some bizarre reason, Disney decided to cut back on Fantasmic down to two times a week, wrecking havoc on families everywhere. Now you literally have to plan your entire vacation around when Fantasmic is showing its face, unlike Epcot and Magic which always have their events.
This little decision to save money has really been a travesty for the park, as most of the week Hollywood Studios isn’t busy at all, and then for two days the attendance numbers explode, and the wait times for the rides triple. Its an inconvenience for everyone, from the families and guests everywhere to even the cast members. Come on now, give them something to look forward to at night! On the other days, by the time its 5:00 guests are already leaving. What are we, Animal Kingdom? Have no fear mortals, I have come up with a list of (somewhat cheaper for the sake of pleasing the higher ups in Disney) activities that can take the place of Fantasmic when Fantasmic is not occurring.
Not in any order:
1) Star Wars: The Musical Experience
Now, in this case, we use the water effects to project images of the Star Wars series of movies as we hear the classic Star Wars music blasting in the background. How awesome would that be? And then re-create the death star battle full of green lasers and explosives everywhere. Now this would be cheap(er), but definitely be a success story. And of course with it being at night, would enhance the Star Wars aura.
2) Musical. Pick one, anyone.
This park is full with musicals and stage performances. So why not end the evening with a rousing musical? Why not do a medley of musicals? Why not re-create scenes of Hairspray, Grease, Chicago, Rent, Sound of Music, Rocky Horror Picture Show, etc.? And if Disney doesn’t want to deal with copyright issues, they still have many musicals to rely on: Mary Poppins, Bedknobs and Broomsticks, Summer Magic, Song of the South, etc. You won’t need the water effects, pyrotechnics; all you need is good singing and dancing.
P.S. If anyone mentions High School Musical…..I will scream at you for weeks.
3) Hollywoodtastic Firework Show
In this case, fill the stadium, and prepare them for a 15-minute firework show (that does not need the stage or the water effects) that involves all the movies and television shows that you can find in the Hollywood Studios. Start things off with “Hooray for Hollywood” and throw fireworks to the tune of music from Indiana Jones, Star Wars, Twilight Zone, Aerosmith, the Disney musicals, Toy Story, and finish it with “A Star is Born,” which is what usually ends the night in the park.
4) The Jackie Chan Stunt Show
This is the stunt show that the world has been waiting for…well, at least Disney should be waiting for. Now, who would not want to see a bunch of people performing crazy-arse stunts while performing awesome karate in front of thousands of satisfied guests? Featuring members of the Jackie Chan Stunt Team, this show will be performed once every night Fantasmic is not done, as they display the toughness and persistence of filming a martial arts movie and performing a martial arts fight.
5) Mulch, Sweat, and Shears Fireworks Spectacular
How about ending the night with a massive concert full of special effects, a few fireworks, and excellent music? It would be a recreation of their New Year’s Eve concerts.
6) How about…more Fantasmic?
The point is, something has to be done, we need to give guests a reason to last the entire day in the parks, instead of just half a day. That stage is totally empty most of the week, which if I were running Disney I would feel like that's a major waste. if it were up to me, I would give Fantasmic every night, and if I can't for budget reasons, give them other options at the end of the night.
Something must be done. This twice-a-week-Fantasmic fiasco must be stopped or improved upon.
Let's do it for the guests.
And for our well-being too...
