Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street

The visual style of the movie poster is overall dark and gloomy which gives off the nature of the setting and personality of the main character, Sweeney Todd. Since he starts off as a generally happy character, with his family, there is a happier and humane side to him. In the movie poster, there is a light and dark side to his character, reflected in his personality as well. The expression on the main character's face is angry and serious, common throughout the film. He is referred to as " the demon barber of Fleet Street", which references the demon, revealing to the audience that there is an aspect of evil and hate present in this character.  The slogan "never forget, never forgive" reveals the vengeful side of the character, seeing as the movie is about murders that he commits due to his hatred towards a man that separated him from his family. Even after Sweeney Todd gets revenge, he continues with the murders. It's almost as if he feels there is still a void of no longer having loved ones to come home to, he uses the suffering of others to give himself a sense of fulfillment.
In the background there is a large window and open doorway resembling surveillance, the notion of exposure or being watched. Behind the glass window there is a clock tower, assumed to be Big Ben which gives away the location to be somewhere within London, England. The structure of the room shows that it is a room that looks to be an attic, old, dusty and worn out. Red is the colour that is showcased in the poster, standing out from all the rest. It is seen in the cracks of the floors and is the colour of the chair Sweeney Todd is sitting on. It represents blood and murder that is associated with the character and the location of his barber shop. In the film, under the chair, there is a passage that leads to the furnace where the murder victims are kept. The blood-filled cracks on the floor may give that hint of mystery surrounding the secret passage. The film looks to be based in the Victorian era, slightly visible through the character's clothing.
The archetypal story is tragedy. The hero suffers from a tragic flaw, in this case it is his strong desire for revenge, that blinds him and triggers the series of events that will lead to his downfall.
